THE MINI GUIDE

Amsterdam, edited down.

Three days built around what makes Amsterdam so easy to love: canal houses and wandering, a beautifully timed boat ride, a focused dose of art and a ride into the Dutch countryside.

3 DAYSPINNED MAPBUILD YOUR TRIP
DAY ONE

Canal houses
& the city at dusk

Poffertjes → KALLAN House Walk → lunch → two-hour sunset-to-lights canal cruise → Secret Garden

01

DAY ONE

The Amsterdam you came for

01

Start with poffertjes

Begin at Pat’s Poffertjes in the Jordaan for the little Dutch pancakes. Butter + powdered sugar is the classic order. Keep it light; this is breakfast before the walk.

02

The KALLAN Amsterdam House Walk

Do this as one continuous morning: Brouwersgracht → Noordermarkt → Westerkerk → Nine Streets → Begijnhof → Museum Van Loon.

KALLAN NOTE The walk intentionally ends at Museum Van Loon. Go inside at the end to see the canal-house rooms, garden and coach house. Allow about 45–60 minutes inside.

03

Lunch at Jansz.

A polished canal-house lunch inside the Pulitzer complex — central enough that you do not lose the afternoon crossing the city.

KALLAN NOTE Book lunch, then leave yourself breathing room before the boat.

04

The two-hour canal cruise

Book Pure Boats’ small-group two-hour cruise with drinks and snacks. The timing matters more than the departure point: choose a later slot that starts in daylight, moves through sunset and finishes as the canal lights come on.

KALLAN NOTE This is the KALLAN timing trick: daylight lets you see into the canal houses and understand the architecture; dusk changes the city; the lights give you a completely different final half-hour.

PURE BOATS ↗
05

Dinner at Secret Garden

End somewhere theatrical: a hidden-garden setting with Japanese-Peruvian food and enough energy to make the first night feel like a night out.

SECRET GARDEN ↗
DAY TWO

One great museum
& Amsterdam after dark

Breakfast → Rijksmuseum → free afternoon → The Duchess → optional late walk

02

DAY TWO

Culture without losing the day

01

Breakfast at Bakers & Roasters

Go early for coffee and a proper breakfast before Museumplein. It is close enough to keep the morning efficient.

BAKERS & ROASTERS ↗
02

Rijksmuseum — choose your reason to go

Do not walk in planning to “see the Rijksmuseum.” Check the current exhibitions and collection highlights before the trip and choose what actually excites you. Give it roughly 90 minutes unless art is the reason you came to Amsterdam.

Rijksmuseum Amsterdam

KALLAN NOTE The building itself is part of the experience. A focused visit leaves the afternoon open instead of swallowing the day.

03

A warm stroopwafel

After the museum, go to Rudi’s Original Stroopwafels at Albert Cuyp Market for one made hot on the iron. Order the original — warm syrup, no pile of candy toppings.

KALLAN NOTE Rudi’s current schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Friday + Saturday, 11–5. It made KALLAN because it still feels wonderfully old-school and less built for the photo than many newer stroopwafel stops. If it’s closed, keep your eyes open as you wander and choose another place making them fresh on the iron — Amsterdam has plenty.

04

Lunch + an unplanned afternoon

Have lunch in the Nine Streets/Jordaan and leave a few hours intentionally open for shops, coffee and whatever looked good yesterday. For a pretty, easy lunch, Brasserie Ambassade keeps you directly on the canal belt.

KALLAN NOTE This is the part we would not over-plan. Follow what looked good yesterday — or, if this is your first Amsterdam trip, use our New to Amsterdam list below to work in one classic you still want to see.

05

Dinner at The Duchess

Dinner in the former KAS Bank building: soaring ceilings, old-world glamour and a room that feels worthy of a night out.

THE DUCHESS ↗
06

Optional: Amsterdam after dark

If you are curious, walk through De Wallen after dinner. It is lively, historic, adult and very specifically Amsterdam; it will not be for everyone, so treat it as an optional part of the night rather than a must-do.

KALLAN NOTE Expect adult entertainment, crowds and a very different atmosphere from the canal belt. Go because you are curious — not because you think you have to.

DAY THREE

Ride beyond
the canal ring

E-bike countryside → late lunch → one last Amsterdam evening

03

DAY THREE

See what sits beyond the city

01

Countryside e-bike tour

Trade the canal belt for Waterland: canals, dikes, villages and open Dutch countryside. Book Mike’s 9:30 AM Countryside E-Bike Tour; it runs about 4–4½ hours and includes a windmill plus a traditional cheese-farm stop with Gouda samples and a clog-making demonstration.

KALLAN NOTE This is your cheese experience too — no need to spend another hour on a separate cheese tour.

MIKE’S BIKE TOURS ↗
02

Late lunch at PIQNIQ

The morning tour gets you back around 2 PM, so make this a late, relaxed lunch in the Jordaan. PIQNIQ is built around smaller dishes and lunch boards — good after a long ride without turning lunch into another event.

KALLAN NOTE Aim for about 2:30. The kitchen currently closes at 3:30; PIQNIQ is closed Mondays and Sundays.

03

Reset at the hotel

After lunch, go back to the hotel. Shower, change and leave a few hours completely open. This is the pause that keeps the last night from feeling like another checklist.

04

A cocktail at Pulitzer’s Bar

Start the last night somewhere that feels like Amsterdam before dinner: dark wood, beautiful glassware and canal-house atmosphere inside the Pulitzer.

KALLAN NOTE Make this one drink, not a whole bar crawl. The bar is intimate, and reservations are recommended when available.

PULITZER’S BAR ↗
05

One last dinner: Vinkeles

Finish at Vinkeles inside The Dylan — a refined final-night dinner tucked into one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful canal-house settings.

KALLAN NOTE Book around 7:45–8 PM. The cocktail beforehand gives the night a little shape without overfilling it.
